Karl's Diet Blog: Day Fifteen - May 17 - 169 lbs

May 06, 2011

I'm back to the doctors office today for my second physical. I have been fasting since Monday so I do not have any excellent food updates to share.

I will say I am crazy hungry and still four hours away from getting my lab work done. A little behind the scenes note: last time I had lab work done for this sweeps piece I saw stars...broke out into a cold sweat and nearly passed out. It's a normal reaction...low blood sugar, no food, blood taken out of your body...all adds up after a while.

Today I am staying hydrated so that does not happen again!

Day Fourteen - May 16 - 169 lbs

In baseball terms I'm rounding 3rd base and eyeing home plate with this diet. I met with Mark Haub on Friday and had a great interview with the Kansas State professor.

Today is Monday and I have to fast later today because I have my second physical set for tomorrow. To be honest the hardest part is being constricted on the diet. I love food to begin with and I guess I'm just being stubborn with what type of food is on the docket.

I'm heading back home to Scottsdale on Sunday to see my little brother graduate from middle school...family has a dinner planned at a Japanese restaurant and I am already craving it!

Day Eleven - May 14 - 169 lbs

It's that time once again for Friday funday...yep I am in a good mood because the weekend is just about to show it's face again. I have been on a big snack kick lately not a lot of meals...rather a cookie or a brownie at random times. In all honesty I am itching to be done with the diet...sushi is going to be meal number one when this diet is complete. Big day today as I am just about to bolt to Manhattan to meet with Kansas State professor Mark Haub....yes the man who first participated in the junk food diet. We are going to be doing an interview over breakfast...should be great!

Day Ten - May 13 - 169 lbs

I'm not being paid to endorse any product while on this diet....however I will stand by the "5 Hour Energy" craze. Big fan. 5 calories....small bottle...great little cheater method to get the body going before the day/work out. Mood has been effected by the diet....I sense that I have bit a more irritable. Weight wise I am only down 2 pounds at this point...I'm really interested to see if I have lost muscle mass while on this diet. I am craving something off the grill tonight. Heck, I am going to do it. Turkey burgers covered in bacon and mushrooms...with a side of fries. Yep, that's happening tonight.

Got to save up the calories for that adventure. Also, I plan on meeting with Kansas State professor Mark Haub on Friday to talk about how the diet is progressing. Wish me luck!

Day Nine - May 12 - 168 lbs

Yep, as expected I am run down. I am on the road all day today covering a story in Hays. Kicked off the morning with two cookies and some chocolate milk. I am seriously dragging by mid-morning. Got a large coffee...helped a little bit. Lunch was ok...bag of chips...giant cherry icee drink and a bottle of water. Driving back from Hays and all I want to do is eat...and eat and eat. Made myself hit the gym for a three mile jog....got to replenish the body after right? Peanut butter ice cream for a late night snack/dinner? Yes, please.

Day Eight - May 11 - 168 lbs

Name of today is keeping things minimal. Woke up..quick chocolate protein shake, brownie, cookie...off to work. Drank A LOT of water today...found myself to not be very hungry come lunch time.

Instead, this muggy heat had me craving a popsicle or ice cream.

Snagged a frozen strawberry lemonade drink from McDonald's for lunch....like I said not that hungry. Crazy long twelve hour day at the station and a HUGE work out at the gym felt great. Burned over 1050 calories on the treadmill which had the body NEEDING food.

McDonald's trip part two on the day for dinner....fast food can be such a guilty love. Lets see how I feel tomorrow after this long day.

First Weekend - May 9-10 - 171 lbs

First weekend on the diet. This was easily the most difficult part of the junk food experiment. No part of me wanted to eat junk food...it's the weekend...I'm off work and out of the office... the last thing on my mind was stuffing my face with junk. I kept my calories in check on each day which I was proud off. A lot of my meals were consumed out at restaurants and that was fun to order what I wanted. Onion rings...chicken wings...all fair game. Monday night I decided to grill out. I'm an avid grill-master by nature...made a decent sized steak with some fat on it and sweet potato fries...EXCELLENT.  I'm already nervous about next weekend and keeping things in check .

Day Three - May 5 - 171 lbs

I’m hungry, plain and simple. I would be perfectly content doing nothing all day but grilling a big ole steak outside during this beautiful Kansas day. Nothing is stopping me…other than that whole calorie count thing.
