Wingnuts whittle down roster

{WICHITA, Kan.} — Wichita Wingnuts' outfielder Brent Clevlen has been purchased by the Cincinnati Reds' organization.


Clevlen, who spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues, signed with the Wingnuts in late-April.  The 27-year old Clevlen hit two home runs in four Spring Training games, and is expected to report to Triple-A Louisville.


Clevlen is now the ninth Wingnuts player purchased by a Major League organization, and the fifth in 2011.

The Wingnuts also trimmed their roster to 21 players after Saturday's practice session.  The team released infielder Jason Diaz, catcher Ben Harty, as well as pitchers John Holdzkom, David Miller, and Anthony Shawler.  The Wingnuts may add up to 23 players in time for their season opener on Thursday.  American Association rosters must be cut down to 22 after the first two weeks of the regular season.

The Wingnuts complete their exhibition schedule on Tuesday when they host the Sioux City Explorers at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium at 7:05 p.m.  Tickets are just $7.00 general admission and may be purchased at the Wingnuts' office, or at the gate the night of the event.


The Wingnuts open the 2011 season on May 12th at Amarillo.  Wichita's 2011 home opener is Friday, May 20th versus the El Paso Diablos.
