Storm Team 12: Gusty winds, cool temps

May 13, 2011|By Meteorologist Mark Larson | Storm Team 12

An intense area of low pressure will pinwheel away from northeast Kansas Friday. On the western or backside of the storm system we'll find gusty northerly winds and very cool temperatures. Afternoon highs will only climb into the low to mid 60s Friday, nearly 10 to 15 degrees below average for mid-May.

Clouds will decrease out west but clouds will persist over the east where a few spotty sprinkles or showers will be possible, closer to the departing storm system.

More sunshine is in our forecast Saturday but highs will stay in the 60s. Clouds are set to move into the west Saturday night where a few sprinkles or light showers will also be possible. The clouds will probably hang around Sunday resulting in another cool day with highs in the 60s once again.

Look for the more seasonal 70s to return early next week along with a modest warming trend through midweek. Unfortunately our drought will continue with little if any rain expected until Thursday or Friday.
