Ulysses man killed in crash in Finney County

(FINNEY COUNTY, Kan.) — A Ulysses man dies after an accident Thursday in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Cadillac was driving north on U.S. 83 near Plymell around 2:45 Thursday afternoon and tried to pass another vehicle. Investigators say that's when the driver noticed a southbound semi and jerked back into the northbound lanes.

The KHP says the woman driving overcorrected, went into a ditch and the car rolled. Both people inside were thrown from the vehicle.

Investigators say the passenger in the car, 49-year-old Ted Shoemaker, died at the scene. The 52-year-old woman who was driving the car was flown to a Wichita hospital. Investigators say neither were wearing a seat belt.
