(SALINA, Kan.) — A Salina family loses their home and their dog to a fire Wednesday afternoon.
Salina officials report that on Wednesday, May 18 at 4:30 PM, firefighters were dispatched to 319 Rahm Street and upon arrival found heavy smoke coming from an attic window of the single family residence.

Firefighters worked to put out the fire and a second crew began a search and rescue operation.

The house was found to be all clear with the exception of the family pet which unfortunately had died due to the heat and smoke conditions inside the residence. The animal shelter was contacted to remove the pet from the scene.

The residents of the home had left earlier in the afternoon to visit family in town, and arrived back at home after being notified of the incident. The Salina Area Red Cross assisted with temporary shelter and help for the residents.

Fire investigators were unable to determine an exact cause of this late afternoon fire; the case is being classified as undetermined. City
