An umpire takes a bat to the mouth during the regional game between Hutchison and Derby Thursday.
A Hutch player was taking a practice swing during a time out...when the umpire walked behind him.
A loud crack -- and the umpire fell to his knees.
An eyewitness says he saw the whole thing happen and by the sound of it... thought it was going to be much worse.
“I thought it hit him in the mouth and he lost all of his teeth, luckily he got hit on the chin," said Eyewitness Gene Phillips.
The umpire left the game and went to the emergency room for stitches. He's expected to be okay.
This is the third time this month someone was hit in the face during a school sporting event.
