Wichita, KAN. — Wichita police are warning about a growing trend in suicides. On Sunday, hazmat teams responded to the call of an unresponsive person locked inside a vehicle in the 11400 blk. of 13th street. Investigators say the 32 year-old man inside had committed suicide by mixing chemicals which created a poisonous gas.
"We don't want to say what chemicals are being used," said Lt. Ken Landwehr, Wichita Police Department. "People should be mindful if they see a situation like this. Don't open the vehicle door but call 911 instead."
The 32 year-old man had left a note and had also put a sign on his vehicle warning others there was deadly gas inside.
"He didn't want to hurt anyone else," said Landwehr.
Landwehr says it appears the man had been dead inside the vehicle for more than a week.
