United Way of the Plains sets up disaster relief fund for tornado victims

(WICHITA, Kan.) — United Way of the Plains has set up a tornado relief fund to help the victim of the tornadoes in Reading, Kansas and Joplin, Missouri rebuild their lives in the wake of the storms.

The United Way Tornado Relief Fund will serve as a central collection point for anyone who would like to make a donation to the long term recovery of people affected by the storm.

The United Way Fund will help provide for services from a number of organizations to help tornado survivors long term.

The United Way of the Plains says the fund will be administered with no administration charge; 100 percent of each gift will go to disaster recovery assistance. Donors can designate their gift to assist in either Reading, Kan., or Joplin, Mo. Donors should make checks payable to United Way Tornado Relief, and mail to United Way of the Plains, 245 N. Water, Wichita, KS 67202.

KWCH has teamed up with United Way to take donations through a telethon. The hotline will be open Wednesday from four to six-thitry PM. We will post more information tomorrow.

ICT Reality TV and Eddy's Toyota are also official donation drop location for Reading and Joplin tornado relief efforts, located at also at 7333 East Kellogg, Wichita, KS.

People are encouraged to bring trash bags, gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, personal hygiene items and non-perishable food items. The United Way of the Plains is discouraging people from bringing any clothing.
