(EL DORADO, Kan.) — Many people get an extra day off as the country marks Memorial Day on Monday.

Lakes and park across Kansas have been getting ready for the usual large crowds over the first official weekend of the summer travel season.

At El Dorado Lake a normal holiday weekend brings in about 60,000 visitors if the weather is nice. Officials at the lake say cabins are all booked up, but many camping and utility sites are still available.

Despite higher gas prices, AAA estimates 34.9 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this weekend. That is up 0.2% over 2010.

Gas has dropped about $0.10 in the past week. Click on the left side of this story to find the cheapest gas where you live.
