(WICHITA, Kan.) — The nine-day party in downtown Wichita kicks off on Friday. All this week, crews will be setting things up and making sure everything's ready for the Wichita River Festival.
The food court is taking shape somewhere new this year, on the west side of Century II. Moving it is just one way organizers are making Riverfest more about the river, like with concerts on the floating stage and creating an entertainment area along the water, stretching from Douglas to Maple.
"I grew up in Wichita and came with my family when I was little all the time," said Lindsay Bowling. "I just have fond memories and haven't been in a while, so I think it will be fun."
Riverfest's history goes even further back, now in it's 40th year. Organizers wanted to take it to new heights- with a zipline. This will probably be the main attraction. It takes riders shooting across the Arkansas River. That is, if you can stomach the 20 foot stair climb to get up there.
"Now that I know there is a zip line, I really want to go," said Bowling.
But with all that's new, its the old traditions that keep others coming back.
"The fireworks and everyone is hanging out. Good times," said Tony Hankins.
