Wingnuts rally for extra-inning victory

{WICHITA, Kan.} — Josh Workman hit a walk-off double in the 12th inning to complete the rally and beat Fort Worth 4-3.

Wichita was in an early hole after a sacrifice fly and two solo home runs put the Cats up 3-0 after 5 innings.  The Wingnuts finally got on the board in the 7th inning when Josh Horn brought Mike Conroy home from second with a single to right field.  Evan Button followed that up with his own RBI single to cut the Cats' lead to 1.

Relief pitching was huge for Wichita as Trent Lare, Brandon Mathes and Jared Simon came in to pitch 3 and two-thirds scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Josh Horn made a spectacular play at short on a high chopper that was just over Simon's head.  Horn bare-handed the ball and Jorge Delgado made a great scoop at first to keep the bases clear.

Wichita was still down by 1 into the bottom of the 9th with two outs when the Cats shot themselves in the foot.  Evan Button hit a ground ball to the first baseman who bobbled it and couldn't get the out putting runners on the corners for Ryan Patterson.  Patterson hit a sharp grounder up the third base line to score Josh Horn and tie the game at 3.

The Wingnuts couldn't bring home another run and this one went into extras.  Josh Dew was nails in the final 2 and a third innings allowing just one hit and striking out three. 

Fort Worth walked Juan Richardson in the bottom of the 12th and he then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Jorge Delgado also got to first base on a walk putting two runners on for Josh Workman.  Workman then came through with an RBI double to win it for Wichita.
