Man drowns in northwest Wichita

(WICHITA, Kan.) —

A man who drowned at a private lake late Wednesday night has been identified as 20-year-old Phillip S. Green.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says emergency crews were called to the lake in the 4900 block of W. 21st St. N. late Wednesday night.

Investigators say Green and several other people had been swimming in the lake. Green was taken to a Wichita hospital where he died.

The Sheriff's Department says the investigation into exactly what happened is continuing.

Police are investigating after a man drowned in Northwest Wichita late Wednesday.  It happened at 21st and Hoover around 11:00 Wednesday.

Police tell us several friends were having a small gettogether when they decided to go for a late-night swim in a peninsula area.

A man in his twenties started to struggle while swimming. His friends pulled him out of the water, performed CPR and called 911.  Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say several of the people who were involved are experienced swimmers, but they aren't sure about the experience of the man who died.
