Casey's Riverfest Blog Day 3

June 07, 2011|By Casey Siebels | FetchToto.com Editor

(WICHITA, Kan.) — DAY THREE - Sunday, June 5

Today was full of great music and fun activities. My first stop  was the zip-line, where I got to watch some daring individuals strap in and glide across the Arkansas River. This ride is definitely for someone who is looking for some excitement while at Riverfest. It is NOT for someone who is afraid of water or heights, which ultimately eliminates me from trying this one out.

My next stop was the Wichita Wingnuts baseball game at the Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Riverfest attendees were admitted free to this game with their Riverfest buttons. Dedicated fans sat in the 100 degree heat and cheered on their team. This was my first time going to a Wingnuts game and although they didn’t win against the Kansas City T-Bones, it was still an exciting game and I’ll definitely go to more games this summer.

The last stop of the day was to check out some of the concerts. My first concert that I listened to was the City of Praise/WayFM Christian Musicfest which took place at the Star Lumber Stage near the Arkansas River. Many of the concert goers were able to find some shade under the tall trees, which made the concert even more enjoyable.

The final concert of the day was the Coleman Country Concert featuring Little Big Town. Large crowds of people began to shuffle in hours before the performers of Little Big Town took the stage. By the time it was 8:15, the entire Kansas Star Music Park was completely full of excited fans. The crowd took to their feet when Little Big Town began the concert. They sang some of their popular country hits which got the crowd clapping their hands and singing along. This has been by far the largest crowd that I’ve seen at a concert thus far during Riverfest.

Tomorrow one of the events that I plan on seeing is the Hot Air Balloon Glow at the Delano Park. The wind has prevented any hot air balloon rides so far, so hopefully this event will still be able to take place tomorrow.
