{WICHITA, Kan.} — Wichita State baseball student-athlete Johnny Coy was drafted in the 45th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the 1,369th pick overall.
Coy, a sophomore first baseman from St. Joseph, Mo., hit .274 with 71 hits, 17 doubles, seven home runs and 59 RBI, while earning first team all-Valley honors.
Coy joins fellow Shockers Tyler Grimes, Charlie Lowell, Brian Flynn, Chris O’Brien, Chance Sossamon, Mitch Mormann and Josh Smith who were drafted on Tuesday.
The Shockers also had two recruits taken in the draft. A.J. Ladwig was taken in the 45th round by the Philadelphia Phillies and Tyler Baker was taken in the 50th round by the Cleveland Indians.
