(KINGMAN COUNTY, Kan.) —
Despite two deaths at Cheney Lake over the holiday weekend, park rangers say they still saw too many people without life jackets.
A teenager was hit by a boat Friday night and another teenager drowned on Saturday.
Park Manager Jody Schwartz told Eyewitness News, "I understand they're swimming and stuff but it's not a swimming pool, it's a 9,500 acre lake but things can happen and a life jacket is uncomfortable but it will save you."
People swimming at the beach said they felt people were being more cautious and saw more kids wearing life jackets or other flotation devices.
Schwartz said the lake saw a few incidents on Monday, but none that led to any serious injuries.
