Why you should go: The 2nd Saturday of every month is an event that encourages individuals to explore local shops in Downtown Wichita. Several different unique shops throughout the Delano District, Downtown/Old Town, and the Douglas Design District will be offering special discounts at their stores. In order to receive these discounts, simply purchase a reusable 2nd Saturday shopping bag (available at all participants) for $5.00.

2) 17th Annual Automobilia’s Moonlight Car Show & Street Party

Why you should go: Cruise downtown this Saturday for one of the largest car shows in Kansas. The Automobilia Moonlight Car Show will be featuring muscle cars, hot rods, motorcycles, sports cars, vintage & antique vehicles, classic cars, and much more. This show is free to attend and will include live music from 8 different bands, 3 food courts, vendor merchandising courts, and an awards ceremony.
The show begins at 6:00 p.m. and goes until midnight. The cars will be parked along Douglas, First Street, and Second Street between Broadway and Mosley. Following the car show, there will be a midnight cruise up and down Douglas that will go until 1:30 a.m.
3) 111th Annual Wheat Festival

Why you should go: Wellington, Kansas is having its’ 111th Annual Wheat Festival this week. On Friday, events will include sidewalk chalking, baseball tournament, puzzle contest, paper airplane contest, ice cream social, bed races, bingo, and more. The events on Friday will conclude with the Wheat Festival Parade which begins at 8:00 p.m., followed by a street dance featuring Smuggling Yo-Yo’s at 9:00 p.m.
Saturday’s events will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a Kiwanis Club Wheat Cake Breakfast. Other day long events will include an arts and crafts show, the 25th annual Wheat Festival Antique Road & Classic Car Show, Antique Tractor & Stationary Engine Displays, and more. There will also be events that the kids can enjoy including a kid’s dog show, D&L train rides, kid’s bouncies, a coin dig, and a kid’s pedal power tractor pull.
Sunday’s events will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the Knights of Columbus Breakfast. Other events will include a co-ed sand volley tournament, the Wheat Festival Art Walk Awards reception, and an old fashioned ice cream social. The festival will conclude with a free family swim between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Wellington Family Aquatic Center.
4) Sedgwick County Fair

Why you should go: On Friday, the fair events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go to 10:00 p.m. Events will include a children’s petting zoo, an amateur barbeque cook-off check-in, carnival rides, softball tournament, and more.
Events on Saturday will include a dog show, 3 on 3 basketball, car show, hypnotist Kier Royale, hot dog eating contest, livestock sale, demolition derby, and a street dance in the Open Air Arena. The fair will conclude with a grand finale firework show South of Carnival Midway.
