WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wingnuts announced Tuesday that they have re-signed right-handed pitcher Nick Singleton.
Singleton returns to the Wingnuts after a stint in the Mexican League with the Acereros de Monclova (Monclova Steelers). Singleton was 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in three starts for the Steelers, striking out 16 batters in 12.2 innings pitched.
The 28-year old right-hander is 8-0 this season for the Wingnuts with a 2.11 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances. The Montgomery, AL native has struck out 47 and walked only 13 in 47.0 innings. Despite having missed the last month of the American Association season, Singleton's eight wins still rank tied for third in the league, while his ERA is just several innings short of qualifying for first.
Singleton has led the American Association in ERA two out of the last three seasons, posting a 2.24 mark in 2008 with Sioux City, and a 2.36 figure last season with the Wingnuts.
