A few showers and storms stretch from northcentral through southwest Kansas this evening. Some gusty winds, heavy rain and small hail are possible with the stronger storms this evening. Overnight temperatures will drop back to the 60s in the northwest, with 70s to near 80 degrees elsewhere.
The dangerous heat returns on Friday, with most of Kansas exceeding the 100 degree mark again. A few late day storms are possible in the northwest.
The big area of upper-level high pressure will work back toward Kansas late in the weekend. At the same time, a weak cool front will try to slip across the border into northern Kansas late Sunday into Monday. A few showers and storms will be possible along and north of I-70.
We'll start off the work week with 90s over most of the Sunflower State, including Wichita. Late in the day, some widely-scattered storms are possible too.
The intense heat takes just a small breather, as the forecast calls for near 100 degrees Tuesday and over 100 by Wednesday.
