Dodge City Police Chief Craig Mellecker tells Eyewitness News a passenger noticed a suspicious device on the train west of Dodge City.  That passenger alerted a conductor and Amtrak notified Dodge City police.

Police stopped the train in Dodge City and evacuated the car where the device was located, and upon further investigation, decided to evacuate the entire train.

The Kansas Highway Patrol bomb squad was called to the scene and rendered the device harmless.  They say there was no explosive material in it.
