The Backstretch Blog: Bowyer on the Backstretch

July 27, 2011|By HEATHER WILLIAMS | Eyewitness Sports

It seems like it's been a long time since we've raced. But it's only been a week. For many teams this break has been a time to regroup. And while there haven't really been any changes to the 33 team, Clint Bowyer and the boys definitely  needed the time to regroup. If the Chase started today, the 33 team would be on the outside looking in. Luckily for Bowyer, the it doesn't start today.

Instead NASCAR is headed to the famed Brickyard. It's a track that Bowyer is improving at. He has a pair of top 5's and top 10's. He has completed ever lap of the five races he has competed at in Indianapolis culminating in a career besr 4th place finish last season. Bowyer feels like his team still has room to improve at Indy.

"It's a lot of fun to be able to go to Indy," said Bowyer. "We have to get better at that place. Our first run there was very good, but since then, we've been mediocre. We have to get ourselves back to running well on those kinds of race tracks."

And in general. Bowyer has an average finish of 27th over the past 5 races.

"I think we're bringing a new car there," said Bowyer. "We've tried to put some things together that I think will be the latest and greatest. We're hoping to get the best result out of it."

And ofcourse growing up in the midwest, winning at Indy would be special for Bowyer.

"Indy is a big deal. In the sport of auto racing, Indy is one of the biggest deals out there. I think that the Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the year and Indy is the second biggest race of the year."
