(SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan.) — The Sedgwick County Commission approves the new county budget for 2012.

The budget is more than $411 million dollars, and includes a reduction of nearly $10 million and the elimination of 112 county jobs. Some of those jobs will come from early retirement, but last month the county said 78 would be laid off.

The budget also included some cuts to 25 cultural and community agencies, including the Sedgwick County Zoo and Sedgwick County Extension Office. There is also an increase in ambulance fees.

Commissioners approved taking aound $250,000 from the county's economic development fund and putting it in teh commission's contingency fund. Commissioners say some of the money could be then put back in the budget for various agencies that faced cuts.
