(LIBERAL, Kan.) — A new effort in Liberal is issue court notices could free up officers with the city's police department.
Currently officers in the city's police department serve people with notices to appear in court. New rules will now allow certain city officials to issue those notices as well. That includes people like city zoning officers and building officials.
Liberal's police chief says it will make both his department and the city more efficient.
"instead of pulling an officer from his duties... and issue that notice to appear, we saw that it would be a lot more efficient throughout the city to have individuals do that themselves" said police chief Al Sill.
The new rules take effect within 61 days.
