Income down for Intrust Bank Arena in second quarter compared to 2010

August 17, 2011|By Robert Marin | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Intrust Bank Arena made more than $1 million less in the second quarter this year than in the second quarter of last year.

Assistant County Manager Ron Holt says the changes come with a very different year for the arena and concert business. 2010 was the opening year for the arena, when Holt says it did phenomenal business.

In a presentation to Sedgwick County Commissioners this morning, Holt said between April 2011 and June 2011 the arena brought in just shy of $1.1 million, but its costs were $61,342 more. Holt noted that for the entire year, operating costs for the arena are still in the black by more than $49,000.

In the second quarter of this year, there were 15 fewer events at the arena than in the same time in 2010. Holt says it is hard to get a trend on the industry from one year to the next.
