Injured three-year-old Wichita boy showing signs of improvement

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Update: Wichita police say a boy who was critically hurt at home on Thursday is showing signs of improvement. The boy remains in critical condition at a Wichita hospital.

The boy's mother is in jail awaiting charges.

Police were originally told the child fell down the stairs, but the mother now faces charges of child abuse and aggravated battery.

Wichita police arrest a 41-year-old mother after a three-year-old boy goes to the hospital critically hurt.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the 5600 block of north Sullivan in north Wichita around 10:45 Thursday morning. Police were initially told the child fell.

After investigating, police say the child's mother was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and aggravated battery. The child is in critical but stable condition at a Wichita hospital.

Investigators say they are still looking into exactly what happened.
