One hot ride

August 23, 2011|By: Karl Man | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA,Kan) — It’s a trip three-year old Aiden Youngman takes five days a week, but it’s a trip that his grandmother thinks could be dangerous.

“He comes home and his cheeks are all red and he is all sweaty” says Sharon Youngman.

Her concern is over the lack of air conditioning in the school buses that serve the Derby school district.

She says that the triple digit days outside makes the inside of the bus very hot…something that takes its toll on Aiden as he makes his trip to Wineteer Elementary.

It’s not a short trip for three-year old Aiden; he spends nearly an hour and a half on the bus to and from school.

Sharon says she has not contacted the Derby school district about her concerns, however, she has contacted the bus company that transports her grandson to see what steps can be taken to protect the kids from the excessive heat.
