Woman with children in SUV hits Salina police cars during chase

(SALINA, Kan.) — Salina police say a woman led officers on a short, high speed chase and hit two police cars, all while her kids were riding inside her SUV.

Our news partners at The Salina Journal report Salina Police pulled them woman over in the 300 block of E. North Street around 5:19 a.m. Sunday. Police say the woman appeared intoxicated.

After pulling over, police tell the Journal that the woman put her SUV in reverse, then back in drive, after the officer yelled she was going to hit his patrol car. Police say the woman took off across grass at a high rate of speed.

For four minutes police say the woman reached 80 mph as she wove through city streets.  At a dead-end on Woodland Ave. investigators tell the Journal the woman put her SUV in reverse again. That is when police say the woman sideswiped one police vehicle and rammed the front of another.

At this time, Salina Police tell the Journal the woman got out of her SUV and ran into her mother's home, where she was arrested. Police say children ages eight, five and one were inside the SUV.

The woman faces charges including DUI, child endangerment and battery of a law enforcement officer.
