Storm Team 12: One for the record books

September 01, 2011|By Meteorologist Mark Larson

September has started in sizzling style with more major-league heat this afternoon.  We have already hit 100 degrees, making it the 51 day this year of triples, which is a new record.   We'll see sunny to mostly sunny skies along with gusty southerly winds.

Hang in there, much needed relief is heading our way. A couple of cold fronts will work their way into Kansas over the next few days. The first front will push into northern and western Kansas Friday afternoon bringing cooler weather, highs in the 80s and 90s, while southern Kansas swelters again with more 100s.

The Friday front could also spark a few storms by evening. A second and much stronger front will arrive Saturday bringing storm chances and then SIGNIFICANTLY cooler temperatures to southern and eastern Kansas. Right now it appears highs will only be in the 70s and 80s Sunday and Labor Day Monday.
