Well, to call this season a roller coaster for the Kansas Kid would be an understatement. Clint Bowyer started out slow...got hot in the spring and into the summer, but now that summer is turning into fall, Bowyer is once again having a hard time. Maybe it the strain that 4 cars really seems to have on Richard Childress Racing. the last time they had four cars they all missed the chase, and this time it looks like three of the four cars will miss the chase, including Clint. Or maybe it's the strain that not having a contract put on the team.

In any event, Bowyer finished 36 in the rain delayed race at Atlanta, after a late race dust up with Juan Pablo Montoya. He is now 14th in the points and needs a win and a little help in order to make the Chase for the Championship field.

"We had a really good (car) and got wrecked by another competitor who was racing stupid and not showing any patience," said Bowyer. "It sounds like we are going to have to win next week to make the Chase and we run well in Richmond. We had a top-10 car this weekend and I expect us to have one in Richmond. This team isn't going down without a fight."

The good news in all this is, Richmond is a very good track for Mr. Bowyer. He's a past winner at the short track but the bad news is so are the drivers he is racing for a spot in the chase.

"It's just one of those tracks that we run well at and have a good package. It fits my driving style and we have success there."

As for the status of his contract, well Bowyer doesn't really want to talk about that too much. Although his car owner hinted that the two may be past the point of a meeting of the minds. Richard Childress told Sirus NASCAR radio on Thursday that he's still trying to put a deal together for next season. But added that Bowyer has other options avaible to him. That seams to be an offer reportedly on the table from Richard Petty Motorsports. What ever it is, Bowyer aint talkin', at least not specifics.

"There's opportunities and things you gotta work out," said Bowyer. "Again you gotta have all the stars line up, you can't just have one piece of the puzzle or a couple pieces of the puzzle, you gotta have the whole puzzle put together."
