(PRATT, Kan.) — The Pratt Police Department confirms a two year-old was fatally shot Tuesday morning. Police believe the death was a “tragic accident”.

Authorities say that at approximately 8:09 a.m. on Tuesday police received a report that a child was brought into the Pratt Regional Medical Center with a head injury.

Police say they arrived at 8:11 a.m. and discovered a male child, approximately two years-old, that had suffered a gunshot wound.

A police investigation determined that the injury had been the result of a single gunshot wound at a residence in the 100 block of South Pine Street in Pratt.

The hospital staff immediately tried to stabilize the child.
