Storm Team 12: Storms and a warmup

September 16, 2011|By Meteorologist Rodney Price

Most of Kansas is socked in with clouds this afternoon, which has kept the temperatures in check.  Showers and storms are developing in southwest Kansas and eventually will work their way across the state during the evening and overnight hours.  Lows in the 50s are forecast.

On Saturday, look for isolated showers and storms in the morning followed by partly to mostly cloudy skies.  Highs will be much warmer Saturday afternoon with highs in the 70s and 80s.

Expect more storms to fire in the late afternoon hours in western Kansas, which will then move to the east-northeast.  Some isolated severe weather cannot be completely ruled out, with some hail and high winds the main concerns.  These storms will roll into the Wichita and Hutchinson areas during the late evening.

A drier and warmer forecast is in the works for Sunday with highs in the 80s.  It looks like a great finale for the Kansas State Fair.

The forecast will stay warm and dry Monday and for most of Tuesday.  More showers and storms are expected late Tuesday into Tuesday night.
