(WICHITA, Kan.) — Food, coats and cash; that's what Operation Holiday needs as it kicks off its annual charity drive.
The yearly food and coat drive from Inter-Faith Ministries helps families in need in the Wichita area. Last year the drive helped 12,854 people living at and below the poverty level.
This year, with the continued bad economy, organizers expect the need to be just as great, if not greater, than last year.
This year organizers say they need 100,000 non-perishible food items, 6,000 children's coats, 4,000 adult coats, 10,000 scarves, mittens and knit hats and 3,000 blankets. It's also trying to raise $350,000 to purchase gift cards, supplement food donations and provide food and shelter to those in need.
