Police nab suspected North High scammers with help of FactFinder 12

October 14, 2011|By Brian Heap | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — FactFinder 12 Investigators, an alert viewer and dilligent police officers team up to catch two sisters suspected of posing as North High athletes to scam people out of money.

The 22 and 21 year-old North graduates were arrested last Wednesday, accused of running a longtime scam and lying to police about their identities when confronted.

As FactFinder 12 Investigators first reported October 4th, two people had been going door-to-door claiming to be collecting money for students who couldn't afford to participate in athletics.

North High and USD 259 confirmed no such fundraising was being conducted.

Police officers were called to a south Wichita neighborhood last week after an Eyewitness News viewer phoned 911.

"I saw it on the news," said James Perrymore.  "When she came to the door I automatically recognized her," he added.

Wichita Police are looking for more victims to come forward in this case.  Anyone who gave money to the women is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at (316) 267-2111.
