(EMPORIA, Kan.) — Investigators identify two international students from Emporia State University killed in a fire last week as international students from China.
Yawei Fan and Zheng Lin were from Liaoning province in China. The university says they came to ESU in the fall 2009 semester.
23-year-old Fan was a sophomore studying chemistry. 22-year-old Lin was studying for a master's degree in the Department of English, Modern Languages and Journalism. She also worked at the Center for Early Childhood on campus.
The two students died Thursday after a fire at an off-campus duplex. Investigators say flammable items left too close to a floor furnace started the fire.
The university says plans are underway for a memorial service for the two students.
