Investigators: Fatal Salina mobile home fire was accidental

(SALINA, Kan.) — A man in his 40's who was found dead in a mobile home off North Ninth Street early Friday. Our news partners at The Salina Journal say the man died of injuries from the fire. The man has yet to be positively identified.

Investigators say the fire appears to have started accidentally.

Investigators in Salina find human remains inside an abandoned mobile home that burned late Thursday night.

Salina's Fire Marshal says crews were called to the report of trees on fire in the 1700 block of N. Ninth around 11:45 Thursday night. When crews arrived they found an abandoned mobile home on fire.

The Fire Marshal says that the mobile home was located in a densely wooded area, so firefighters had to use a chainsaw to clear trees for better access. Investigators say the mobile home had not utility services connected.

During clean-up of the fire, investigators found remnants of human remains inside the mobile home. Investigators are waiting on an autopsy to determine the victim's identification and cause of death. The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
