(WICHITA, Kan.) —
Canoe enthusiasts will do more than just paddle down the Arkansas River Saturday. They'll slow down to also pick up garbage floating in the water.
It's the annual Clean Up and Canoe project. From 9 until noon, volunteers plan to float in the water and pick up litter left behind. Canoeists and kayakers are asked to bring their own boats. There will be other boats available with a signed waiver.
Volunteers should meet at the 12th and Bitting Street bridge to check in and get gloves and bags. The event is organized by the Service Employees International Union Local 513, the Arkansas River Coalition, the Kansas Canoe & Kayak Association, and the City of Wichita.
