November 01, 2011|by Melissa Scheffler | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(EMPORIA, Kan.) — Rhonda Voorhis was born and raised in Arkansas City.  But listening to her speak, you would think she is from England.

Her voice changed a few years ago after a jaw surgery.  Now, she’s among a rare few in the world diagnosed with Foreign Accent Syndrome.

Eyewitness News Reporter Melissa Scheffler spent some time with Rhonda, who is now an instructor at Emporia State University.  She talks about her struggles, like explaining to people she’s really from Kansas and coping with some of the painful side effects.  But she ultimately finds her new voice.

Melissa will also take you inside a study where Rhonda is the subject.  Thursday, tune into Eyewitness News at  10 for the story you have to hear to believe.
