Salina home destroyed by fire Monday

(SALINA, Kan.) — A Salina home was destroyed by fire Monday night according to Salina officials.

According to a statement released by thE city of Salina, at 10:22 p.m. fire crews were dispatched to 726 Choctaw for a report of a residential structure fire. Upon arrival by the first in company it was reported that there was heavy fire conditions to the rear of the residence and all the occupants were outside of the home.

Crews were able to easily gain access to the fire, make a quick knock down and contain it, crews remained on scene to continue overhaul operations and assist with the origin and cause investigation.

Fire investigators determined that the fire had originated at the rear exterior of the house and had burned up and through the ceiling furthermore extending into the attic area of the single family residence.

The exact cause of the fire is undetermined. The residents reported smelling something burning outside and initially thought it was someone’s fireplace; however the home

began filling with smoke so both residents did evacuate the house and called 911. Neither of the residents was injured and the estimated fire loss is $20,000.00 to the structure.
