Reminder: Set your clocks back this weekend

November 04, 2011|By Kim Hynes | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday.  Daylight saving time ends this weekend.

The Wichita Fire Department encourages you to test your smoke alarms when you change your clocks.  If your smoke alarm is more than a year old, it's also recommended you replace the batteries.

In addition to changing smoke alarm batteries this weekend, the WFD recommends following these simple steps to protect lives and property:

  • Replace the entire alarm if it’s more than 10 years old or doesn’t work properly when tested;
  • Install smoke alarms on every level of a home, including the basement;
  • Make sure everyone in the family understands the warning of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond;
  • Test alarms once a month using the test button.

Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don't have to change since they did not observe daylight-saving time.
