Storm Team 12: Rain/snow on the way

November 07, 2011|By Meteorologist Mark Larson

A storm system will sweep out into our area Monday and Tuesday bringing rain and storms to central and eastern Kansas and snow for some out west. The snow should be sparse but there will be some locally heavy rainfall along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike. A few storms could be severe near the KS - OK border where golf ball-sized hail would be the primary threat.

Monday afternoon temperatures will remain fairly steady in ranging from the mid-40s to upper-50s.

Colder air will funnel into the backside of the storm system Monday night into Tuesday morning so rain will change to snow for northwest Kansas into Tuesday morning where a Winter Storm Warning has been posted.

Clouds will hang around Tuesday with lingering  light rain or patchy drizzle. A wintry mix will be possible over central Kansas Tuesday afternoon, but accumulating snow is not expected.

Sunshine and warmer weather will return to our area Wednesday.
