December 07, 2011|By Jennifer Searle | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Kids love them, but the Environmental Working Group says they're loaded with sugar.

The group just released its list of the ten worst cereals based on sugar content.

It says Kellogg's Honey Smacks is at the top of the list.  It's nearly 56% sugar by weight.  The group says a one cup serving of the cereal has more sugar than a Twinkie and many others have more sugar than three chocolate chip cookies.

The group says that only one in four children's cereals meets the government's voluntary proposed guidelines, which recommend no more than 26% added sugar by weight.
