Storm Team 12: Warm before the storm

December 16, 2011|By Meteorologist Mark Larson | Storm Team 12

This afternoon's forecast looks like a virtual copy of Thursday's: sunshine, light winds and highs in the 40s. Look for temperatures warm up a bit this weekend with most of our area enjoying highs in the lower 50s Saturday then mid to upper-50s Sunday. We can expect lots of sun Saturday followed by increasing clouds Sunday afternoon.

A significant storm system continue to organize over the southern Rockies late Sunday then plow out into the Plains Monday. Rain could begin to develop over southwestern Kansas as early as Sunday night as the system approaches our area.  Monday afternoon we can expect a rain/snow mix over the west and rain in the east. The current forecast of the storm system will change rain to snow over southeastern parts of our state Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Stay tuned however as the exact track of this weekend's system is yet to be determined. Our Storm Team should be able to firm up the next weather-maker's projected path and its impact on your area by Sunday.
