(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police arrest 14 people in three hours during a DUI checkpoint near Old Town over the weekend.
Officers ran the checkpoint from 10:30 Saturday night to 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning on Washington just north of Kellogg.
During the checkpoint officers say they made 14 arrests, including three people whose blood alcohol level was at least 2.5 times the legal limit. Three people were cited for open containers, two for minors in possession and one for a suspended license.
Investigators say they were surprised at the high number of arrests. A lieutenant with the police department suspects it is because of a combination of Old Town activities, a Wichita Thunder game and Christmas parties.
