MOLINE, Ill — John Snowden scored a power play goal with :46.7 seconds remaining in overtime to give Quad City (18-11-1) a 5-4 win over Wichita (20-8-2) Friday night at the I Wireless Center. It was Wichita's first loss in the extra period this season. The Thunder remain in first place with 42 points as Allen also lost in overtime to Laredo.
RG Flath (3) opened the scoring in the first period as he tipped in a shot from Thomas Beauregard on the power play and gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Beauregard extended his scoring-streak to five games with an assist on the goal while Flath has scored in consecutive games.
In the second period, Matt Robinson (13) gave Wichita a 2-0 lead as he caught a pass from behind the net from Brett Hemingway and found Robinson wide open in the slot. The Mallards answered less than two minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1 as Eric Giosa was able to find the net. Just over a minute later, Robinson (14) scored his second goal of the game as he blasted it past Mallard netminder David Brown. The Mallards closed the second period with two straight tallies to tie the game at three. The first came from Jeremy Boyer on a five-on-three power play at 10:23. Quad City got the equalizer at 14:56 when Obi Aduba scored from the left circle.
