(NEWTON, Kan.) — A Newton man could spend 20 years in prison for the death of 19-month-old Vincent Hill.  Chad Carr entered a plea agreement this morning in which he pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree, three counts of Aggravated Battery, and one count of abuse of a child.

Those charges were reduced from first degree murder and several more serious battery and abuse charges.

"Considering all of the circumstances, and to bring conclusion to the case, the family joined me in an agreement to accept 20 years as the just sentence in the case," explains Harvey County Attorney David Yoder.

Yoder calls the Vincent Hill's case, the worst case of child abuse he's ever prosecuted. Medical reports show that the child had a broken leg, broken shoulder and died of suffocation and blunt force trauma..

Carr was dating the toddler's mother at the time of the death. Hill's father spoke with the media following Thursday's hearing.

"Whether he does 20 years, 50 years, or 2 years, my boy only had 19 months of life," said Richard Hill.

"I don't want this just to be some tragedy that happened. I want his death to make people more aware of child abuse."

Vincent Hill's mother, Katheryn Nycole Dale was also sent to prison after pleading no contest to abusing and endangering the child.

Carr will be sentenced on January 17th.
