A look at the far side of the moon

February 02, 2012|by Jennifer Searle | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

Here's something you don't usually see, the far side of the moon.  Since the moon is tidally locked with earth, we only see one side of it.

Only robotic spacecraft and Apollo astronauts who orbited the moon in the 1960's and 1970's have seen the far side of the moon directly.  The far side of the moon is rugged.  It also has craters from asteroids that hit the moon's surface.

Now NASA has started an image program aimed to get a closer look at it.
