Liberal police make arrest in string of home break-ins

(LIBERAL, Kan.) — Police in Liberal make an arrest after a string of home burglaries, but they say homeowners should not let the guard down.

Over the past two weeks, Captain Dave Odle with the Liberal Police Department says there have been 15 residential burglaries in Liberal. Monday, police say they served a search warrant and arrested one person in connection with the break-ins. During the search police say they recovered property from five different burglaries.

While police have made an arrest, they want to make sure people take steps to keep themselves from becoming victims. Those steps include locking doors and watching out for suspicious activity, and calling 911 if you see something funny.

"What would really help out law enforcment on the other side of it would be to record any serial numbers on your electronic equipment, photograph any jewelry, any kind of valuables you have in your house," said Odle.

During the search police also arrested four people on unrelated charges and recovered narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
