Hutchinson bicyclist killed in collision with trash truck

(HUTCHINSON, Kan.) — One man is dead after an accident involving a person on a bicycle and a Stutzman trash truck according to Lt. Schofield with Hutchinson Police Department.

Police say 35-year-old Julian Olea Tomas was bicycling northbound on the sidewalk on the east side of Adams Street. The trash truck was also going northbound. As the truck was turning, the bicycle collided with the truck and the rider fell from the bicycle. Tomas was run over by the truck.

Tomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at 2:10 p.m. at 4th and Adams Street in Hutchinson.

The collision is still under investigation by the Hutchinson PD Traffic Bureau. There is no evidence that alcohol was a factor by either the driver or the bicyclist
