{INDEPENDENCE, Mo.} — Matt Robinson scored twice and Adam Russo was spectacular in net, giving Wichita (34-13-2) a 4-1 win over heated-rival Missouri (27-17-4) at the Independence Event Center Saturday night. Wichita improved to 5-1-0 against Missouri and has won the last five games against the Mavericks since losing the series opener back on November 4th. The Thunder remain in first place by four points as the Americans won earlier in a shoot-out over Fort Wayne.
Dustin Donaghy (6) broke a scoreless tie with less than five minutes to go in the second period. Chris Chappell came into the zone and found Donaghy who ripped a shot past Missouri starter Charlie Effinger's glove.
Matt Robinson (24) continued with his hot touch as he fired a laser past Effinger from the high slot on the power play at 4:57 of the third period to make it 2-0. Robinson has scored in his last three games and has five points in that span. The Mavericks finally got on the board halfway through the third period on their second five-on-three as Dale Mahovsky scored from the left circle. Wichita regained a two-goal lead as Robinson (25) notched his second of the game on an odd man rush to make it 3-1. RG Flath appeared to score an empty-net goal with just under two minutes left, but was called for elbowing. Travis Wight eventually scored with four seconds remaining and Wichita won 4-1.
