It was a Ford kind of day in Daytona with the Blue Ovals grabbing four of the top five spots in qualifying for the 500.
Carl Edwards starts on the pole, with his Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle also starting on the front row next Sunday. Dale Earnhardt, Junior broke up the Ford party, by running third quickest in his Hendrick Chevy. Marcos Ambrose and Casey Mears were forth and fifth quickest, both in Fords.
Outside of the front row, the rest of the starting positions will be set by Thursday's Gatorade Duels. The finishing order for 150 mile races will set the starting order for the Great American Race.
Emporia native Clint Bowyer will start Thurdsay's race from the back of the field after his #15 Toyota failed post race inspection. NASCAR says his car was too low in the front.
Three drivers that did not finish in the top 35 in owners points last season have locked themselves into the field, based on their qualifying efforts Sunday. They are defending Daytona 500 race winner Trevor Bayne, David Stremme and Tony Raines.
