(WICHITA, Kan.) — A potential change on the Sedgwick County Commission would also change the Wichita City Council. Councilman Jeff Longwell announced Tuesday night he is running for the county commission. He wants the District 3 seat now held by Karl Peterjohn.
Longwell says he had been considering a run for mayor, but business people approached him and asked him to run for the county commission instead. Longwell says he will fight to build a stronger economic base, for jobs, and to attract state and federal dollars to the area.
"I don't think saying no is going to get it done. I want to get in there and build a coalition and do some of the things I think this community needs," Longwell told Eyewitness News.
Longwell says he wants to consider ways Wichita and Sedgwick County can work together to save money. He also wants the transit system to serve the bedroom communities around Wichita.
